Jehovah-Jireh, My provider
Genesis 22:13b-14 He
(Abraham) went and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called the place The Lord will provide. And to this day it is said, " On the mountain of The Lord it will be provided".
Remembering what we have learned this week of Gods names we can substitute The Lord with Adonai and provider with Jireh. Also knowing the J is actually a Y in Hebrew we see Abraham calling God;
Adonai Yireh. Yireh was a place in the land of Moriah. It was the location of the binding of Isaac. This event sets Abraham aside as the father of the faith. He is the first patriarch. He is credited as, "a friend of God". In Genesis 22: 2 God tells Abraham to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, whom he loves. How is it that a loving father can sacrifice his only son whom he loves? Abraham in verse 8 tells Isaac that God will provide the burnt offering when he questions where the lamb for the sacrifice was. Abraham trusted God. He knew God's character and power. He knew enough to trust that if God took Isaac at that moment, because of all Gods promises concerning Isaac, he would raise him from the dead. Instead God stops Abraham and provides a ram for sacrifice. God himself sent Jesus. He came and was the lamb who was slain. There is no substitute. He is the real sacrificial lamb. He came and died for our sins. We were lost, destined to die, yet
Adonai Jireh paved the way. He took our place and because of his death we can live forever with him. Before he was handed over to die the death we deserved, Jesus prayed that the cup be removed from him. He knew his fathers character and trusted him completely so he gave his will and life to his Father God. This is the God I will follow all of my days. Sometimes life looks bleak and impossible, but this I know,
God will provide, no matter what we see or feel. He will provide a way and his will for our lives is perfect because he loves us with a love no man has. This is the God who is calling us to him. Answer the call today!
