Exodus 17:15 Moses built an altar and called it, The Lord is my banner.
The next names of God add his attributes after Jehovah;
Nissi: My banner
Jireh: My provider
Rapha: My healer
Makadeshi: My sanctified
Tsidkenu: My righteousness
Shalom: My peace
Or: My Lord is Light
Rohi: My shepherd
Jehova-Nissi is My God is my banner. What is a banner exactly? A banner can be anything used to commemorate or celebrate an event, a group or signets. We think mostly of sport teams or company logos. In our above scripture Moses raised his staff during a battle against the Amalekites. Moses lifted the rod of God as a banner. In this action Moses watched the battle from a vantage point and as long as the "banner" of God was raised the Israelitis prevailed against their enemy. The cross of Jesus is our banner today. Everything we need can be found at the foot of the cross. Come to the cross today, confess your sins and lay your petitions down. Cling to the promise that Jesus can carry the heavy baggage of life's challenges. He himself promises, "My yoke is easy and burden light"; Matthew 11: 30.
Let him sing over you with his song of love. Pray Psalm 91 over yourself and family. Allow the God of All be your banner today and fly it high for all to see. Amen!
