Psalm 97:1 The Lord (Adonai) reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice.
Adonai is the plural form of adon "Lord". Adonai or Lord is mentioned 400 times in the bible. The term implys the concept of dominion, ruler or ownership. The difference between Adonai and YAHWEH was Jewish law forbade jews from saying the name of God so they were commanded to replace it with Adonai. The term is given to mean supreme lord, sovereignty and majesty. Jesus allowed himself to be called Adonai. Adonai is more than just Lord. It's relational because it can be considered "My Lord". When calling God Adonai we give him possession of our lives as the Master and we, as his servants, are in total submission to him. Is God the Lord of your life? He wants us to trust completely and lay our very existence at his feet. Adonai is waiting. If we seek him, we will find him, if we knock, the door will open, Matthew 7:7. Knock today and allow the Supreme Lord to take ownership of your heart.
