Kevin is 4 years old. Kevin can get himself dressed. No matter where we go Kevin loses his shoes. Kevin is telling me he doesn't know where he left his shoes. I have to get out of the car and go find his shoes.
Luke 15: 1-7 Jesus tells a story of a shepherd who has 100 sheep, yet one gets lost. What should he do? He leaves the 99 and goes to find the one. When he finds the one he calls his neighbors and friends. They rejoice with him because his lost sheep has been found. Jesus will always go search for the us. When he finds us, all of heaven rejoices. There is more rejoice over one who repents, then the 99 who are "righteous" in their own eyes and think they need no repentance.
What about the 99? Why does the shepherd leave them? I've often thought we who love Jesus are the 99. He left us because we are okay...He already knows He has our hearts. Well, while this is true...it's not what he's saying. We are the one...all who love God have strayed for one thing or another. We have all sinned. So He leaves the pious, unrepentant and goes and finds His true love. Once we are His, none can be snatched from His hand. We all let sin into our lives...but He will always come pull us back to himself. Each time we ask forgiveness the heavens have a party! This story is about us. God's people. He will always come searching for us.
