Isaiah 12:2 Surely Jehovah is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
Jehovah is the latinazation of the Hebrew Yahweh. The word Jehovah was found on the Moabite stones so the word must have been used in the days of Mesba but had not been used for centuries. Christian scholars in the 1500s studied the Old Testament in Hebrew. If they did not fully understand the text they translated the Y to a J. In early Hebrew language there was no J sound it would have been a Y. Jehovah is the modern mispronunciation the Hebrew name, results of combing the consonants of Jhvh and the vowels in Adonai.
YHWH vs JHVH...they are the same. The name literally means; The I AM that I AM. The eternal, unchanging, self- existent, covenant keeping God. Again we see the God of the universe who has always been and always will be wanting kinship with us. He isn't sitting on the mountain top, watching us strive to reach him. He humbled himself, came as a baby and lived amongst us. He came as a servant. He stepped away from heaven, off the throne and came here. He died the death we deserved. He beat the grave after three days and ascended to heaven to prepare a home for us. This is the God we serve. This is the great, loving ABBA, father who wants to have Relationship not religion with us. He is known. Knock, seek and you will find! Times are unstable but he is very aware of what is going on and will take care of us. He has never, not once left his remnant. When the Israelites went into captivity, he too went with them. If He is the same yesterday as today then he is here with us. Don't go cold or apathetic in hard times. Stand strong in the knowledge that the great I AM will fight for us. Put on the full armor today, Epheshians 6:10-18. Put up the shield of faith and pull out the sword of the spirit. These will extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one. Stand in the armor ready and steadfast in full command; God as our commander!
All week we will look at the name Yahweh or Jehovah with other names describing Gods attributes.
