Beyond the white picket fence

Book review: The boy called IT

Written by: Dave Pelzer

Reviewed by Christa Jordan

This book is filled with pain, sadness, and fear; Pure terror for years. The detailed description of the horrendous suffering hit me like a lead of bricks. For years I had been told that I needed to read this book, and for some reason or another I didn't. I finally gave in, as I've made my way through so many other foster care books, I figured it was time. This is a book I'll never forget. The torture Dave Pelzer experienced at the hands of his own mother and family was appalling. What is even more horrifying is that this same type of trauma, neglect, and abuse still exists today. I urge you all to read this book. I ask you all to be the reason a child finds hope and restoration. Even if it's just one child, the difference you can make is tremendous.
