Beyond the white picket fence

The "Ultimate Gift"

Part 1 of 3 part series

Quarantine day 35, I've watched a lot of movies. The Ultimate Gift is a favorite (coincidently Brian Dennehy passed away this week and was in this movie) of mine.

In the movie, the mega rich grandfather, after his passing bequeats several tasks to his spoiled grandson he must perform to recieve the "Ultimate Gift". The granson goes about these arduous jobs first as a chore but slowly moves to finishing beyond anyones imagination.

What is the Ultimate Gift? Honestly at a time as this, when hundreds of thousands are affected by a virus...what is the legacy we can leave behind? Really, have you thought about it? I'll never forget years ago speaking to an employee about God and eternal life. In her opinion and the religion she practiced, her take was, " the most we can get in the end is to be in God's memory".

Wait, that's it? What does that mean? You know she couldn't tell me.

Why would you "work" toward anything to be tossed out to a unfriendly universe or just a memory? That makes no sense.

Have you ever thought about the Ultimate Gift? What we leave behind?

I can tell you, we can be more than a vaper passing through time. We can leave a treasure to our spouses, children, grandchildren, anyone who is searching for the "Ultimate Gift".

The ultimate gift can't be achieved by work, It's Free!!

We all say nothing is free. We have to earn everything. Even a silly tax commercial promises, "free free... free free free!", when we know it's not free.

We earn money, grades, prestige, power, praise, love and influence. Each of these can be achieved in our power, but

the ultimate gift can't be worked for. It is truly free: Salvation.

The act of saving is to rescue, to give away and protect from deadly harm. Not one will escape this world with his life. Death comes in many forms; personal and spiritual by tangible loss; financial and personal or intangible; hopes and dreams.

I surmise the biggest loss is death of soul. Your moral compass, your true North isn't a cricket whisphering right and wrong into your ear, it's a cross on a hill. It's your inner most being that tells you what road to take. Some choose to follow the worlds map; to the kneel at it's altar and believe the lawless one who calls for us to achieve greatness in ourselevs by tossing our destiny to karma and the universe. I propose another option. A choice made within your spirit, freely given. A way to know without a shadow of a doubt, you are more than a vapor.

These bible verses sum it up.

John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that He GAVE his only son that whomever believes in Him will never die but have eternal life.

Ephesians 2:18, For it is by grace that you are saved, through faith- and this is NOT in your power but is a GIFT from God.

A present and gift can be the same thing but there is a difference. A present is usually a thing wrapped to be given on special occasions but a gift can be intangible.

The cross is leads us to Jesus. He gave His life by dying on that cross for the sins of all past, present and future.

See we have all fallen, born into sin, having chosen to follow a world that made a choice to not adhere to Gods standard. Gods standard is perfect because He is perfect and because God gave us free will we can accept or reject the gift. He knew we would fail so He chose to step into our eternal punishment and pay the price himself.

Romans 6:13 The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. All we have to do is say, "yes and accept the gift".

That's all!!, just realize we have all fallen short of the glory of God and agree we need saving and give ourselves to a God who has nothing but the very best for us.

Nothing else needed. This is not "religion" with man made rules and works, but "relationship" with the one true God. This is a loving God, who spoke the universe into being, who stepped out of glorious heaven to come to earth as a man, was born, lived and ultimatly died for all the sins of every man. On the third day the Holy Spirit raised him from death. Gods not dead, He lives and ALL because He loves us.

Part 2 what is relationship??

How can I give my life to Christ and have relationship with him?
